About: the website; the blog, and mama
What’s happening here?
Two things:
1. the Maman-Musings blog; and
2. pages of information, images and facts intended for those visiting the Médoc, or those with a special interest in the region.

Who is maman?
Maman is an English mummy who lives in the Médocan countryside with her partner in crime, children and hens . This site is intended to exist as a celebration of all things local to my broadly defined “Médoc” region; a “work in progress” digest on, and personal commentary of, the wine, food, celebrations, traditions, crafts, values, images and treasured places of a region that has become a place I am happy to call home.
As well as fun filled times and discoveries with my children and their daddy I enjoy: cooking, baking, running, cycling, crafts, conversation (with almost anyone), laughing, drinking wine (not on my own!) exploring new places and cultures, and having indulgent time with friends and family; this is not an exclusive list…
What led maman to the Médoc?
It all began on a trip to Costa Rica in 2001 where I met the papa of the “Maman-Musings” blog; but that’s going back too far for the purposes of this site.
In the Summer of 2007 papa and maman decided that if there was ever going to be a good time to leave England and set up home in a new country, it was sooner rather than later. Driven by the motivations of a family life in the countryside, following our dreams, and a holiday business idea, we commenced a search for our dream (in budget) location.
Our search criteria encompassed countryside, proximity to the coast, proximity to forest, proximity to a sizeable city and well connected airport, and a closer proximity to mountains. After less reasearch than many may have expected we found the Médoc and a new home that is perfect for family life and, we hope, our business ventures.
We managed to get through the legal process, pack up our life in England and be moved in within 4 months of papa first laying eyes on our new home, and 3 days before Christmas 2007. Although some may have thought us a little hasty and expected us back in England within 12 months, our decision was made so there seemed little point in thinking about it any more; hey, if you leave decisions too long you can talk yourself out of almost anything!
And thank goodness we commenced our Médocan journey when we did; if we had left it even 3 months longer it would not have been possible, and certainly not now.
So here we are; the juniors are settled, the hens have joined us, and papa certainly knows more about DIY and renovation than perhaps he ever hoped to. Our life here is being well and truly lived and the challenges of the first year are proving a great foundation for moving forward and further embracing our life here. We have a long way to go before we are making our living in the way we want to; but we feel privileged and excited to be here and every step forward, and back, has a part to play in building our life in the Médoc.
The “Maman-Musings” blog:
An inevitable by-product of my Médocan discoveries are personal musings, bemusings, and hopefully at times amusing tales of my family’s life and experiences in France; not necessarily specific to the Médoc. There will also be some general commentary and outloud thought sharing; you have been warned.
The maman-musings blog is in keeping with my view that it’s “sometimes” a good idea, at least it feels like it is at the time, to get your thoughts out; to articulate in writing or words your views, ponders and ideas about the world around you. In my case the world around me is viewed from a Médocan outpost; with occassional visits to England and other countries in the world.
It could be a pretty random collection, and as stated not contained to life in the Médoc; though life here certainly informs, and balances, my perspectives.
